Local Issues

In addition to state and federal policy work, the Watershed Council has reviewed and represented water resources on numerous development proposals throughout our service area.

As part of our ongoing work, we receive copies of state and federal dredge and fill permit applications to review. We analyze each project based on the resource and the potential impact. For those projects that have adverse impacts to water resources, we provide recommendations to improve the project.

In addition to the standard review of these proposed activities in lakes, rivers, and wetlands, the Watershed Council staff has been asked to be involved in a variety of projects. In some cases, we are asked to provide advice to local citizens, in others, we get directly involved to ensure that water resources are protected. In addition to this advocacy work on specific issues, the Policy Team has been involved in several educational efforts to help ensure decision makers have the information to make choices that protect water resources.
